Jun 18, 2026 Compiled Ruby: Exploring Spinel
This month we have Alex Barret giving us an intro to the new Spinel compiler.
“Spinel is a new experimental compiler from Matz that aims to turn Ruby into native executables. While still in its early stages, it offers an intriguing glimpse into what compiled Ruby could look like and raises interesting questions about performance, deployment, and the future of the language.
In this talk we’ll take a tour through the project, looking at what Spinel is trying to achieve, how it works at a high level, and what it can do today. Through a series of practical examples, we’ll explore the current state of the project and discover what makes Spinel one of the most interesting new experiments in the Ruby ecosystem.”
Fun! always good to see what Matz is up to :)
